Objective of the network:
Global warming presents a major challenge for international action and cooperation. Within the UNFCCC and the Kyoto Protocol, most industrialized countries have expressed their willingness to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases. In the long run, for further strengthening the policy responses, a truly global approach - involving and committing industrial as well as developing countries - is indispensable. For reaching this goal, numerous approaches have been proposed, both within the framework of the Kyoto Protocol and alternatives outside.
The Climate Policy Network provides a forum for the policy-oriented discussion of scientific results on future strategies for addressing the problem of climate change in an international context. Based on high-level academic standing, the network aims at enhancing the understanding of determinants of cooperation and broad participation in an international climate regime. The research agenda is designed to facilitate a vital exchange of ideas between researcher and policy makers and to stimulate additional research in order to provide a sound basis for future policy interventions.
A core interest of the network is to identify both, fragmentation and
coherence of climate policy strategies in the US, the EU and on a
global scale. Workshops are organised by the partners in turn.
A policy briefing will bring the outcomes to the public.
